Investment Manager and Passenger Train Owner Wes Edens

After graduating from Oregon State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Business Administration in 1984, Wes Edens began his career in the financial industry in 1987 when he accepted a position with Lehman Brothers, a company he was a Managing Partner and Director at for 6 years. He later went on to become a top executive at the BlackRock Financial Management firm in 1997, and a year later, along with business partners Randal Nardone and Rob Kauffman, he founded the private equity company Fortress Investment Group, which became the first large firm in its category to be publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange in 2007.

Under the leadership of Wes Edens and his team, Fortress experienced rapid growth, and by 2014, it was named Hedge Fund Manager of the Year by Institutional Investor magazine, and Management Firm of the Year by HFM Week. The New York based company is considered to be a trendsetter, due to the fact that it uses long-term investment strategies to invest in things that can help get its clients low-risk returns. The firm currently manages more than $40 billion in alternative assets.

Wes Edens is not only an executive in the investment sector, but he also owns an innovative transportation system that runs through South Florida. He came up with the idea of the Brightline Train, because he wanted to provide people with a much better way to get around in that area. The high-speed passenger train, which has leather seating, food service and free WiFi, made its first trip in May of 2018, completing its 80 mph run between Miami and Fort Lauderdale in only 30 minutes. A one-way ticket to ride this train will only cost passengers $10, a far more reasonable price than driving services like Uber would charge for making the same trip.

Also, a big sports fan, Wes Edens is the owner of a professional basketball team called the Milwaukee Bucks, which he bought in 2014 for $550 million. He later purchased the Aston Villa soccer team, and is the owner of an e-sports team called Fly Quest.
